CHAMP Peer Mentor Opportunities

This is a great way to gain professional experience and earn money toward your tuition!

CHAMP Peer Mentors must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher by the end of the summer semesters. They should have been a student at St. Thomas for at least two semesters and have good people skills. Their role is to help the new incoming first-year students’ transition easily into college life. These students should be good role models for our new students and be able to answer the typical questions new students have. The CHAMPs are assigned to a UNI 101 section (First Year Experience course) which they must attend and are required to keep in touch with their mentees throughout their first year. The CHAMPs receive an institutional award which must be applied to tuition or room and board. This award can not be combined with a Federal Work Study award.

The deadline for applications is April 17th. Please keep in mind that students who apply will need a letter of recommendation from one of their faculty members.

But there is the option to do this as Federal Work Study if you already have enough financial aid.

As a Mentor, I will say that you act as a professor, staying on top of them and emailing them every week. Mentors are also required to complete office hours and attend a 3 day training session during the summer.
